From a blank canvas, Ireland went to a regional structure with four or five sessions a week and made the gym a routine part of it, twice weekly for juniors, aimed at letting them train hard rather than at building bulk. By 2011 that was judged not enough. The men were sent abroad under a cuckoo policy, fourteen players by 2012, while the women were centralised in Dublin.
