Fitness decides how aggressively you can press. Tanuscio cites Argentina before Rio, where players covered 35 kilometres a day across sessions in the last stretch of preparation, because the coach wanted pressure on the ball and pressure again the moment it was lost. A team built for deeper defence and counter-attack needs a different engine, so the system has to match the players you have.
