Five session types frame Cheesman’s planning, from unopposed practice through opposed play and small units to the full macro game, with technical work at one end and tactics at the other. He then builds any topic through three phases: exploration, where players try things and answer sensory questions; fine tuning, with agreements and coaching points; and performance, where nothing changes and players simply execute. The model works across a season, a week or a single exercise. Watch the full masterclass: Unlocking Long Corner Tactics in Field Hockey with Darren Cheesman.
