Danny Kerry about teaching zone defence to youth

Start with deny, Kerry advises: where do you not want the opposition to play, traditionally the middle of the pitch, and what that means for where you stand and the lines you run. Next comes who tackles and who holds up in double teams, then the jab, block and shave tackles with their three basic grips. He introduces it all with a box of four defending their pitch, and expects under 12s and under 14s to grasp it. Watch the full masterclass: Closing and tackling in a zone defence.
