Whatever system a young side ends up playing, Browne would put one on one defending first. The game moves quickly enough that closing down, and using body, stick and feet to win a one against one, matters more early on than the label on the structure. For a recreational youth side, Commens says enjoyment is the value that matters most. Players want time on the pitch, not five minutes each half, even in a win, and they want to feel valued by teammates and coach.
